Early Career Researcher Information - #BSNBradford2025

The British Society for Neuroendocrinology is committed to supporting Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in the field of neuroendocrinology. We offer a range of opportunities at our annual conference to help ECRs develop their careers, network with peers, and showcase their research.

ECR Event: Transitions and Leadership

Join us for an exclusive event tailored for ECRs on Sunday 31 August 2025. This year, our focus is on "Transitions and Leadership," offering practical insights and interactive sessions to support ECR members.

This session will begin with a panel discussion focused on common challenges in the early stages of an academic career, as well as strategies for transitioning into leadership roles at various career stages. ECRs will have the opportunity to submit questions or concerns in advance, which the panellists will address by sharing their insights and experiences.

Following the panel, participants will engage in a rotating workshop session. The workshop will be structured around four key themes, each led by a panel member.

The workshop themes will be:

Academic branding and public communication
Collaboration and networking
Written communication and shaping scientific ideas
Leadership

ECRs will be divided into four groups and will rotate through each workshop station, spending 20 minutes at each. This format allows for interactive, small-group discussions and practical advice on a range of career development topics.

Travel Grants for ECRs

The BSN offers travel grants to support ECRs attending our UK meetings. This funding is available to postgraduate students and postdoctoral research fellows within 10 years of their PhD completion.

Eligibility:

BSN membership for at least 6 months.
Presenting research at the current year's BSN meeting.

ECR Awards

The BSN proudly offers three prestigious awards specifically for Early Career Researchers:

Michael Harbuz Prize for Early Career Researchers
BSN Rising Star Prize

To be considered for any of these awards, please indicate your interest during abstract submission. Apply before 2 June 2025

Julia Buckingham Award

Recognises the achievement and potential of an up-and-coming scientist within the BSN (up to 1 year post-PhD) at the BSN annual meeting.

Prize:

15-minute lecture at the BSN annual meeting
£375 prize money
1-year BSN membership

Application Requirements:

Submit a single PDF document along with your abstract, including:

Abstract
Curriculum vitae (résumé)
Year of study/date of viva
One-page cover letter outlining research interests, achievements, and contributions to neuroendocrinology
Two full reference letters (one from a BSN member)
Optional: List of publications (preprints, conference abstracts, etc.)

Michael Harbuz Prize for Early Career Researchers

Celebrates an outstanding member of the emerging generation of neuroendocrinologists (within 10 years of PhD completion) at the BSN annual meeting.
